John lejirma maintains KAGC lead with Goldfield Trophy defence in Kakamega

Kenya team captain John Lejirma maintained his winning formula ti successfully defend the Goldfield Trophy title, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 72 Kakamega Golf club.

The Kenya Railways player fired a total of seven under par 209 to claim the title in a highly cocktail three day event that started off on Friday June 27th to today, 29th that attracted a competitive field of 66 elite amateurs.

Lejirma, won his third title since inception of the Trophy in 2021. Nandi Bears Elly Barno won the inaugural event following by Lejirma in 2022, then Elvis Muigua won in 2023 before Lejirma claiming both the 2024 and 2025.

His victory has propelled him to take a full command of leadership on the table ahead of 2026 Magical Kenya Open.

On Friday, he fired -4 68 to enjoy round one lead followed by two over par 74 then today, he had the best scores on the course with five under par 67.

On two over par 218 was Sammy Mulama from Golf Park who managed second position as homegrown talent in Cedric Kanzolo completed the podium at three over par 219.

Lejirma firmly leads the ranking with 1,750 points, followed by Michael Karanga, who has 1,063 points, and Muigua sits third with 795 points. 

All players competed in the first and second rounds, after which the top 33 players, including ties, will advanced to the final round today.
