John Lejirma reclaim Hippo Pot title, third victory at Nyanza club

National team captain John Lejirma reclaimed his lost glory by winning Nyanza Open, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series on the par 70 Nyanza Golf Club.

Popularly called Hippo Pot, Lejirma fired one under par 209 for the title, reclaiming the title he won in 2022 and 2023 before John Kamais dethroning him in 2024 and coming back for a title he really wanted to cement his top position in the KAGC series ahead of 2026 Magical Kenya Open.

The victory cemented his top position in the series with 2050 points ahead of Michael Karanga’s 1887 with Elvis Muigua completing top three positions with 1342 points.

At Nyanza Open, the Royal Nairobi Club golfer played level in the opening round on Friday following by -1 69 in round two and completed round three on Sunday with level par 70.
