Royal Nairobi Golf Club and Royal Nairobi Golf Club will this weekend play host to the ongoing ‘Road to Gleneagles’ Johnnie Walker Golf Series, marking the first double-header of the Series.
The tournaments, which will be the seventeenth and eighteenth legs on the Johnnie Walker golf series calendar, will feature over 300 golfers taking to the course, with respective winners joining previous series event winners in the Eagles Round to be held on 13th May 2022 at the Muthaiga Golf Club.
The golfers tee off early in the morning, competing in the tournament’s four-ball stableford format. They will be aiming to make the cut to play at the Grand Finale that will be played at the Karen Country Club on May 20th where a fully-paid trip to the iconic Gleneagles Golf Course in Scotland will be up for grabs.
The Royal leg which had been scheduled for 29th April 2022 was postponed to this week in respect to the funeral and burial of former President Mwai Kibaki who was buried on the day.
Speaking ahead of the two tournaments, EABL Marketing Manager for Spirits, Josephine Katambo said;
“These two events mark the final legs of the series which we have held since November 2021. After this, we will close off the Series with the Semi-Finals and the Grand Finale. As a brand, we are very happy with the progress we have had so far, especially in terms of the great number of golfers who have participated in the tournament. As the head of Nyanza and Royal Golf Clubs, we expect a great display of talent from the golfers and we are excited about it. We look forward to yet another amazing tournament as it will also provide us with an opportunity to interact with our consumers in the two regions,” said Katambo.
The event follows the sixteenth leg of the series played on 23rd April at Kakamega Golf Club. During the event, Kakamega Sports Club Chair lady Dr. Beatrice Shikuku led her team comprised of Captain Rajinder Sembi, Vice-captain Salime Amusala, and Viviane Amusala to carding 105 points to claim the sixteenth leg of the Johnnie Walker Series title in Kakamega.
Claiming the second position was the team of Derek Mwaura, Beatrice Otieno, Innocent Ondieki, and Ivan Odakas who managed a combined score of 100 points. They beat the third-placed quartet of Kunal Chandaria, James Mundia, Dr. James Akhonya, and Lydia Oketch by a solitary point.
