Playing at home course, Josphat Rono fired six under par 204 to win Golf Park Open, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 70 Golf Park golf club in Nairobi.
The tournament, which was dominated by home players with James Mwangi also from the club managing second position with one under par 209 with Kiambu golfer Elvis Muigua completing the podium at three over par 213.
The three day tournament that was marred with floods in the opening day at the prestigious Club, situated at the Ngong’ Racecourse attracted 78 players.
Rono started well with -2 68 in the opening round followed by a four under par 66 in the second and level par 70 in the third and final round for victory.
In the final round today, he managed to roll in a birdie in 10th, dropping a shot in 7th and 13th with all pars.
Defending champion Sammy Mulama failed to meet his expectations to retain the title after completing the three day tournament in position T4 with +5 215.
Vipingi Ridge’s Naomi Wafula was the best lady player on the course who ended the championships in position 9 with nine over 219.
