World half marathon record holder Joyciline Jepkosgei won 5,000m at the Kenya Defence Forces Track and Field championships held today at Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The reigning Africa Games 10,000m bronze medalist from Garissa, Jepkosgei beat all the odds to claim the title timing 15:19.1 beating Moi Airbase’s Dorcas Kimeli (15:24.3) before 2016 Africa 5,000m champion Sheila Chepkirui of Thika rounded up the podium in 15:38.0.
In men’s 10,000m Vedic Cheruiyot of Mtongwe was crowned the champion after trouncing former KDF Cross Country champion Alex Oloitiptip from Laikipia Airbase and Alfred Barakach (Moi Airbase) for the title.
Cheruiyot won the race in 28:17.4 as Oloitiptip clocked 28:19.0 and second and Barkach’s 28:20.6.
