Just like world 800m record holder David Rudisha, reigning Olympic Games 800m silver medalist Ferguson Rotich, newly crowned world under 20 800m champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi has entered into the big leagues after beating Nijel Amos in today’s World Athletics Continental tour, the Ostrava Golden Spike in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
Wanyonyi, who trains under former world 800m champion Janeth Jepkosgei ran the world leading time of 1:44.15 at the Vitovice stadium.
The Botswana international, Amos, the legend in 800m failed to beat the young generation despite having experience in the two lap race.
He extended his winning ways from the Kip keino classic to edge out Olympic 800 bronze medalist Patryk Dobek from Poland.
Algeria’s Slimane Moula was second timing 1:44.19 with the defending champion Max Burguin from Great Britain coming home in third in a time 1:44.54.
World U20 silver medallist Noah Kibet and the 2014 commonwealth Games champion Amos both finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 1:44.89 and 1:44.92 respectively.
