Kamar Etiang was the surprise winner of the 1,500m race at the Kip Keino Classic, the World Athletics Continental Tour.
Etiang beat world cross-country junior silver medalist Reynold Kipkorir to win the title in 3:32.01.
Kipkorir came second at 3:32,70 and Samuel Naibei Kiplimo from Mount Elgon completed the podium in 3:36.92.
Etiang, who missed representing Kenya at the 2021 Olympic games due to doping controversy, said that he is preparing for the world championships in Budapest, Hungary.
“I had to speed to victory in the last minute because I had the energy to finish. This victory is good for the Kenyan athletics family,” said Kamar.
World 3,000m record holder Beatrice Chepkoech won the water and barriers with ease after edging out junior athletes in the race.
Chebet, the former world 3,000m steeplechase champion won the race in 9:13.51 ahead of Faith Cherotich (9:15.08) and Jackline Chepkoech in 9:25.63
