Former GFE 105 Goalkeeper Samuel Kamunya has taken the initiative to train junior goalkeepers in readiness to shine in their careers.
Kamunya who is targeting about 20 goalkeepers from Uasin Gishu County said a goalkeeper is the strength of the team that needs psychological, physical and mental stability to carry the team to victory.
The experienced keeper said that is part of his Community Social responsibility back to his roots after hosting the goalkeepers’ clinic at the Eldoret ASK Showground.
“Am doing this because of the challenges Kenyan goalkeepers face. You find out that they are rotating keepers instead of selecting others. We even recall retired or old ones; we take them back into the teams killing young and energetic talent. We want to train the basics that a goalkeeper needs, the knowledge on what they need, aspects of goalkeeping, what goalkeeping entails and what it is to become a great goalkeeper,” explained Kamunya.
He added that they also had a mental mentorship for goalkeepers, educate them in being psychologically and mentally prepared since he is the foundation of any team as he carries the day when he is at the top form, the team will and win vice versa.
“Am targeting about 20 goalkeepers in Uasin Gishu that I will train them daily in the morning before joining their teams in the evening. In six months I want these goalkeepers to be performing well in the national team in unders,” he said.
