Five Kenyan Men, Michael Karanga, Adel Balala and John Lejirma, John Kamais, Dennis Maara and Elvis Muigua have made the cut at the ongoing R&A Africa Amateur Golf Championships at the par 72 Leopard Creek golf course in South Africa.
In a tournament that attracted 72 players from across Africa, Kenya one Karanga fired two under par 70 for a total of six under par 138 to finish joint second with South African Bryan Newman with compatriot Roelof Craig taking the lead with eight under par 136 in the two rounds.
Balala, who was the only Kenyan to make the cut last year, lies at T27 with ten over 154, Lejirma at T30 at +11 155, Kamais at +12 156, Maara at +14 158 and Muigua’s +15 at 159.
Kenyans who missed the cut are Isaac Makokha and Ebill Omollo and Kevin Ayien Mogusu.
In ladies Invitation tournament, all the four- Kanana Muthomi, Chanelle Mwangi, Bianca Ngecu and Joyce Wanjiru are in contention for the title that will culminate tomorrow in the three round event.
Muthomi, who was T12 yesterday, moved up to the 4th position when she fired one over par 73 in the second round today plus her+8 70 to make it nine over par 153 heading into the final round.
Mwangi, who was top Kenyan by yesterday, was dropped to T5 at ten over 154.
