Returning onto the golf course, Michael Karanga won the first edition of Kiambu Open, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series at the par 72 Kiambu golf club.
The home player fired two under 144 for the title when he managed four under par 68 in the first round on Saturday and two over par 74 in the second round on Sunday for the title.
Kenya Railways player Joseph Gtahumbi and Uganda’s Michael Alunga with four shots at two over par 146.
The event is one of the three new events that were added to the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Circuit including the Golf Park Open held in May and Malindi Open “Vasco Da Gama Cup” held in August. The players compete for KAGC ranking points which contribute to the selection of amateurs to the 2023 Magical Kenya Open. Two Amateurs-Dennis Maara and John Lejirma have already earned slots after winning the Kenya Amateur Matchplay Championship and Kenya Amateur Strokeplay Championship respectively.
