Sportpesa Shield Cup champion Kariobangi Sharks will begin their title defence against Elim Fc following the draw that was announced today while four time champions Tusker withdrew from the annual tournament.
Kariobangi, who went ahead to win Sportpesa Super Cup in Tanzania, faces Elim, the Trans nzoia based team that plays at the lower division.
Kenya Premier league (KPL) champions Gor Mahia will be hosted by Kenpoly while AFC Leopards will be hosted by Transfoc from Nakuru as the duo chases 11th title.
The winner will represent the country at the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) Confederation Cup.
But 2016 champions Tusker, for the first time in 50 years withdrew from the championships citing their commitment to the KPL.
The four time winners, who last won in 2016, will not take part in this year’s domestic cup competition.
Tusker are currently fifth in the standings on 25 points after 15 matches – seven points adrift leaders Bandari.
