KCB Chess Club outclassed Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Chess club 3-2 and Technical University of Kenya (TUK) Chess Club 5-0 in the ongoing Kenya National League played at Ruaraka Sports Club to maintain its position at the top of the table.
The win takes them 22 points clear on the log as the 1st leg of the tournament comes to an end.
KCB Vs JKUAT game ended with KCB’s Ben Methu winning against Chris Maina. The remaining 4 games ended with both teams sharing spoils giving each team half a point. The final scores were 3-2 in favour of KCB Chess Club.
Later in the afternoon, KCB gave a high five performance against TUK with Ben Nguku, Martin Njoroge, Ben Magana, Jackson Kamau, and Gloria Jumba beating Cynthia Obonyo, Dean Munene, Amos Karanja, Esther Karanja, and John Kamachu respectively.
Speaking after the mouthwatering game, Kenya National Champion Joyce Nyaruai who is also set to represent the country in the upcoming Olympiad Championship in India said that she was thrilled after the win and urges the team members to keep up the spirit so as to ensure KCB clinches the National Title.
“The game was tough but I’m grateful since the tougher it is the more interesting it becomes. Such challenges normally prepare us for the bigger stages just as one we will be attending come next month,” Nyaruai noted.
KCB Chess Club Captain and Candidate Master Ben Magana welcomed the win saying the competition is instrumental in building the confidence of the players ahead of the Olympiad Qualifiers set for 28th July to 10th August 2022.
This weekend’s fixture was pushed earlier because most players will be representing the country in the Olympiad.
The Olympiad was initially set for Russia but was moved to India due to the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war.
