Kenya Beach Volleyball women team have advanced to the finals of the ongoing CAVB Continental Cup cum Olympic Games qualifiers in Agadir, Morocco.
Kenya labored to beat hosts Morocco 2-1 (21-19, 16-21 and 16-14) in the golden match in the first semifinal match as they await face Nigeria at the finals on Sunday. Nigeria qualified for the finals after Egypt failed to play at the semifinals when one official tested positive for Covid-19.
With the decision Egypt women team was considered forfeit in their semifinal match against Nigeria, and Kenya will face Nigeria in the final on Sunday. The decision also affected Egypt and Tunisia men teams were also considered forfeit in their play off 5 to 8 positions and Mozambique, Rwanda qualified directly to play for the 5th and 6th places.
The final for both genders will be held on Sunday as Morocco meet Mozambique in the Men’s final. While Nigeria face Kenya in the women’s decider.
Kenya Team Two pair of Yvonne Wavinya and Phosca Kasisi lost 2-0 (14-21,11-21) to Morocco’s Team One of Imane Zeroual and Imane Yakki while Kenya’s Team One of Brackcides Agala and Gaudencia Makokha rallied to beat Morocco Team Two of Nahassim Essayad and Alex Naowal 2-1 (21-12,18-21,15-8) to seal the golden match play.
Kenya who had the final laugh winning the set at 16-14 to inch closer to their first appearance at the Olympics.
