Kelvin Onyango and Shanel Hilda will captain the national hockey team at the inaugural Africa Youth Hockey5s Cup beginning set to kick off tomorrow at the Sikh Union in Nairobi.
Yesterday, the Kenya Hockey Union has unveiled the national Under-18 boys’ and girls’ teams that starts tomorrow to Sunday.
The boys’ squad will be captained by Kelvin Onyango of St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale and includes Reagan Meshack, Caleb Korir, Peter Wachira, Daniel Omondi, Kerry Lusweti, Godfrey Fedha, Peter Awot, goalkeeper Okoth Carl Jeremy and Jack Owino.
Derrick Livoi and goalkeeper Ricardo Wisdom have been named as standby players.
On the girls’ side, Shanel Hilda of St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale will captain the team. The squad comprises Audrey Greener, Laura Kadogo, Mitchell Oguk, Mitchell Khakukol, Virginia Morara, Valary Joy, Marina McRae, goalkeepers Claire Ndegwa and Ruth Ateno, while Ziara Achieng and Gloria Okenyuri have been listed as standby players.
The teams will be guided by boys’ coach Kevin Lugalia and girls’ coach Barbara Simiyu, under the overall supervision of head coach Griffin Okombe.
Kenya’s boys’ and girls’ teams have been in residential training at Sikh Union Club in Nairobi as they fine-tune preparations for the continental championship.
