The Kenya Junior Baseball5 team has intensified its preparations ahead of the East African Regional Baseball5 Championship, which gets underway tomorrow in Kampala, Uganda.
The Kenyan contingent arrived in the Ugandan capital on Wednesday night in high spirits and determined to reclaim the regional crown they narrowly surrendered to hosts Uganda last year.
The tournament will feature four nations—Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and South Sudan—with teams battling not only for regional supremacy but also for qualification to the Africa Super 8 Championships set for later this year.
Kenya has travelled with a balanced squad of ten players, comprising five boys and five girls, reflecting the mixed-gender format of Baseball5.
Beyond the regional title, the competition forms a crucial part of Kenya’s preparations for the upcoming Youth Olympic Games, where Baseball5 will make its highly anticipated debut on the Olympic stage. The tournament therefore offers the young Kenyan players a valuable opportunity to gain competitive experience against some of the region’s best talent as they continue their journey toward international competition.
Speaking ahead of the championship, members of the squad expressed confidence in their preparations and belief in their ability to deliver strong performances in Kampala.
The top two teams at the conclusion of the tournament will earn qualification to the Africa Super 8 Championships, adding further significance to the regional contest.
Kenya will open its campaign tomorrow afternoon against Tanzania, with the team keen to make a strong statement from the outset as they pursue both regional glory and momentum toward their long-term Youth Olympics ambitions.
