Kenya Lacrosse turns to donation to support Kenya team ahead of under 20 championships

Kenya lacrosse has turned to fans to contribute for the national team to compete at the World Lacrosse under 21 championships set for August in Limerick, Ireland.

Following a successful campaign by under 19 girls in 2019 in Canada, Kenya men’s under 21 team will be making the debut at the biennial championships as the first African country to compete where they are pooled alongside Wales, Poland, China and Chinese Taipei in pool D.

Today, the Association updated on their instgram page, wrote: “We’ve committed to raising a large chunk of the team budget needed to attend the World Lacrosse U21 Championships, Aug. 10-20, Limerick Ireland. All donations are used to provide on campus housing and meals for the National Team. It’s a lofty goal but one we know the lacrosse community is willing to back!” read the post.

Lacrosse becomes the third federation to call on fans to contribute for the national team after Kenya Rugby Union, to facilitate rugby15s among others.

They said Kenya needs a total of US$60,000 and Africa Lacrosse Foundation is working to raise the amount to cater for both food and accommodation for the players during the 12 days’ stay in Ireland. So far US$34,634 has been raised for the project.
