Kenya Lionesses defeated South Africa to record their second Challenger Series title at the Athlone stadium in Cape Town, South Africa this evening.
The Dennis Mwanja led side won 17-0 to maintain their unbeaten run in the two series played.
At the final, Naomi Amuguni scored first with the first unconverted try for Kenya to lead 5-0 into the break.
After water break, Ann Goretti converted Sharon Auma’s second try to extend Kenya’s the lead to 12-0 as Freshia Oduor added the third unconverted try for a 17-0 win for the Lionesses.
The next challenger Series moves to Krakow, Poland between April 11-12 while the 4th and final will be played in Los Angeles, USA from May 3rd to 4th.
At the semifinals, the Lionesses defeated Colombia 12-05 to match into the finals.
Colombia struck first with unconverted try to lead 5-0 at halftime but the Lionesses came back with force Judith Okumu scored to level at 5-5.
Auma out ran the Colombia’s defence for the second try with a conversion for Kenya to lead 12-5 for the final whistle
The Lionesses then held firm, maintaining their 12-5 advantage until the final whistle and securing their place in the final.
Kenya’s opponents at the final South Africa beat Czech Republic 21-15 to book for the final.
