Kenya Lionesses, the national women’s rugby team started the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup on high note, beating hosts Madagascar in a match played at the Stade makis in Antananarivo today.
With ambitions to claim the title, Lionesses were 28-05 winners against the hosts on a revenge mission.
Grace Okulu converted Phoebe Otieno’s try to give Kenya a 7-0 advantage before Madagascar’s Lady makis responded with unconverted try for 7-5 but Faith Livoi’s try in the corner was unconverted with Okulu shooting wide with Kenya’s 12-05 lead ointo water break.
But Kenya’s dominance was extended into the second half when Okulu shot for the penalty-goal for 19-05.
Okulu failed to shoot past the posts in a penalty for a 23-5 lead for Kenyan then Sinaida Mokaya touched down with Okulu missing to add the extras for a 28-5 win.
Following today’s win, Kenya will now face South Africa on Wednesday June 11th in the second match.
