Vet lab’s Edwin Mudanyi is the 2017 Kenya Amateur golf Championships (KAGC) formerly Golfer of the Year (GOTY) champion.

After finishing 5th overall at the grand finale of the 18 series during Nyali Open on par 71 Nyali Golf and County Resort over the weekend with thirteen over 226, Mudanyi has set focus on next year’s Kenya Open Golf tournament to be staged at Mugaiga Golf club.

He will lead other top six finishers in the Kenya Open championships according to the laws, joining Kenya Professional Golfers and the top golfers from across the world.

“My target was play at 2018 Kenya Open championships and that has been achieved,” said Mudanyi.
His superlative performance, finishing top of the amateur golfers in the country with 508.6 points after he was boosted by wins at Kenya Amateur Matchplay, Kabete Open and Manchester Salver garnering 60, 84 and 60 points respectively.

“It has been a good year for me and all I give thanks to God. Well it has been a great accomplishment this year. 2017 Kenya Amateur Golf Championships, travelled through 18 top amateur events in 12 months, finally crowned a champion. 2018 Barclays Kenya Open we’re in. Thanks to the Almighty and to you all for your continued support,” said Mudanyi who bets that it is time for a Kenyan to win Kenya Open for the first time.
“If a Kenyan will ever win Kenya Open, I am putting my money on the two of the best amateurs in the game, Edwin Mudanyi-Kenya One and Daniel Nduva (the winner of Coast Open and Nyali Open Championships),” Mudanyi wrote on his Facebook page.
He will be joined by Dennis Sakiwa of Royal Nairobi Golf Club who finished second with 459.7 points. The slow but sure golfer won back to back meetings, starting with Nyanza Open (Hippo Pot) at Nyanza club followed by Uhuru Shield on home turf.
Limuru Country Club’s John Karichu completed the podium with 438.5 points. Vet Lab’s Mike Kisia, who plays alongside his father Robert Kisia was in fourth place scoring 396 points.
Samuel Njoroge from Railway Golf club came 5th (316.2) as Nduva from Nyali golf and country club closed the top six positions with 238.2 points.
