Kenyans to brace for Jeruto, Jepkemei sister’s rival in Paris DL

Crowded field of Kenyan runners will battle out for title at this weekend’s seventh leg of Diamond League in Paris, France.

Sisters Daisy Jepkemei and Noaarh Jeruto will be in action against experienced runners Hyvin Kiyeng, the former world 3,000m champion, former commonwealth champion Purity Kirui, reigning Commonwealth 3,000m steeplechase silver medalist Celliphine Chespol Chepteek among others.

With nine Kenyans in the water and barriers race, experience will play a critical role in title chase. Kiyeng won Oslo and Rome meetings, relegating Jeruto to second in both meetings is favoured in Saturday’s fixture.

Others in the steeplechase radar include Beatrice Chepkeoch, Roseline Chepngetich, Ann Gathon and Caroline Tuigong.

World and Commonwealth 1,500m silver Timothy Cheruiyot and upstart Charles Simotwo will renew their rivalry in 1,500m men category at the Paris meeting. The duo, who faced off at the Athletics Kenya national championships cum Africa Senior Athletics championships at Kasarani over the weekend will be competing again.

Cheruiyot, who beat Simotwo at the trials ahead of Africa championships in Assaba, Nigeria will be competing in the same race together with Vincent Kibet and Bethwel Birgen.

Former 800m world champion Eunice Sum will be in action against Olympic Commonwealth silver medalist Margaret Nyairera in the two lap race.

In men’s 800m, former world Youth 800m champion Kipyegon Bett will be in action against reigning world under 20 champion Jonathan Kitilit and experienced Ferguson Rotich.
