Kesses and Turbo were the winners of the inaugural Uasin Gishu Teachers Sports Day football and volleyball titles respectively held on Wednesday at Hill School, Eldoret.
Resilient Kesses whipped Turbo Sub County in the football final match to lift the title in a post match penalties as Kesses custodian Francis Akan was the hero, saving two penalties for his team.
Erick Rop put Kesses ahead in the 10th minute of the start whistle but the celebration was cut short with Edwin Kibet’s shot in the box to level the score ten minutes later.
As the match was headed into penalties, Dennis Kirwa missed to convert a penalty after Turbo degender handled the ball in the danger box. As his shot went wide, centre referee whistled the last call heading into the spot kicks.
Turbo’s Kibet was the player to take the first kick but his shot was saved by Akan while Dominic Korir converted for Kesses.
Wise Wafula’s shot for Turbo went over the bar as Timothy Kiptum’s shot went over to give Turbo a chance to go ahead when Adam awiti netted the first for Turbo beating Akan as Hillary Biwott’s shot was saved by Turbo keeper Philip Bett. Heading into the last kicks, Abel Bitok’s shot was saved by Akan while Justus Sigonon scored the second for Kesses to lift the title in a 2-1 win.
The champions eliminated Soy in a 3-1 win while silver medalists Turbo edged out Kapseret 2-4 at the semifinals.
In their journey to semis, Kesses led pool B after defeating Ainabkoi 3-0 before drawing with Turbo to take the lead in better goal difference while Turbo finished second after beating Ainabkoi 2-1.
In pool A, Kapseret led the table after winning all their two matches. In their opener, they defeated Soy 1-2 before humiliating Moiben 5-2 in the second encounter.
In volleyball, Turbo were the champions following their 1-2 win against Kapseret. The champions came from one set down to win the title 1-2 in the best three setter encounter. They won 1-2 in 25-12, 17-25 and 24-26.
