The Kenya Golf Union (KGU) has increased the number of tournaments in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series ahead of 2027 Magical Kenya Open.
Yesterday, the union released the 2026 calendar, comprising of 33 tournaments across the country that tees off on January 22nd to 24th for the Sigona Bowl at Sigona club ending on December 18th-20th for Nyali Open at the Nyali club.
The new entrants include Ulinzi Invitation run by the Kenya Defence Forces Golf Association, and the Machakos Open, highlighting KGU’s efforts to expand the reach of amateur golf and foster greater participation across the country..
Upcoming season reaffirms KGU’s commitment to promoting competitive amateur golf and nurturing the next generation of elite players.
Of the 33 tournaments, 31 will be hosted by golf clubs across Kenya under the coordination and oversight of KGU, while two flagship championships, the Kenya Amateur Match-Play and the Kenya Amateur Stroke-Play Championship, will be organized directly by the Union.
Both are part of the Kenya Swing, a concept introduced in 2025 to elevate the competitive standards of local golf. In 2026, the Swing will comprise the Kenya Amateur Match-Play Championship, Kenya Amateur Stroke-Play Championship, Limuru Open.
Among the Premier Tournaments for 2026 are the Sigona Bowl, Muthaiga Open, Windsor Classic, and Diani Beach Masters, each attracting strong fields and serving as key ranking events for top amateur players.
After releasing the calendar, KGU chairman Chris Kinuthia said: “The 2026 calendar reflects the remarkable growth of the game and the depth of talent emerging across Kenya. Each event plays a critical role in developing players and strengthening our golfing ecosystem, from the clubs to regional associations. We are proud to see more events joining the series, a sign of golf’s continued progress and appeal.”
His vice Brian Akun added: “From a technical standpoint, next year’s calendar offers a solid and balanced competition framework. The inclusion of new tournaments and the Kenya Swing initiative will elevate performance standards while giving players more structured pathways for growth. These events carry significant World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, and by strengthening their stature, we aim to attract elite amateurs from across the globe. This
level of competition will, in turn, sharpen our local elite players and position them for greater opportunities on the world stage.”
