Ibrahim Kibet and Ismael Changawa guided Kenya to be promoted to next year’s Davis Cup Euro/ Africa Group II tennis championship after registering wins at the Davis Cup Africa Group III Championships final at Nairobi Club today.
The duo defeated Mozambique in straight sets to win their singles where Kenya needed to win the semi-final duel to earn promotion to Group II.
Kibet edged out Bruno Nhavene 7-6(6) and 6-4 as Changawa ebeat Franco Mata in 6-1, 6-1.
Kenya had last year qualified for Davis Cup Euro/ Africa Group II after beating Benin in the semi-finals but a change in sponsorship for Davis Cup saw the promotion halted.
