Kigen to lead Kibiwot, Bett as Olympic track starts on tomorrow in Tokyo

In absence of Olympic Games 3,000m steeplechase champion Conseslus Kipruto, Golden Spike Ostrava 800m champion Benjamin Kigen will be chasing the title as athletics starts this Friday at the Olympic Games.

Kigen, competing alongside Commonwealth Games 3,000m steeplechase silver medalist Abraham Kibiwot and world under 20 3,000m steeplechase champion Leonard Bett, will be hoping to maintain the unbeaten record in the water and barriers race.

Kigen, making debut in the Kenya team said that he has been training well in Tokyo and has adapted to the weather conditions.

“So far everything is good at this time, therefore I am well prepared for the challenge,” said Kigen.

He added that he has met his opponents and majority of them they have never run together but once one is well prepared, they cannot panic at all.

“I don’t fear anybody and I don’t fear running my race at all until we run on that day. That is when I will know who is who in the race. The race will always start with an extended line but it ends with a single man and I want it when it ends with a single man, I want to be the first one at the crossing line,” he said.
