Kimeli and Chepkirui triumph at Brasov Festival 10km titles

Commonwealth Games 5,000m silver medalist Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli and Commonwealth Games 10,000m bronze medalist Sheila Chepkirui were the winners of 2022 Brasov Festival 10km race held yesterday in Brasov, Romania.

The Kenyan Kimeli won the men’s title in led a Kenyan podium sweep in a 1-2-3-4-5-6 positions after winning with a course record of 28:32 that had been set last year by compatriot Peter Mwaniki Aila.

Weldon Langat was second in 26:55 with Isaac Kibet Ndiema closing the podium three finishes in 26:55 all running under the old course time.

Romania Andrei Rusu smashed the National Record of 28:53 that had been set in 2019 by Ștefan Iulius Gavril with a new record of 28:38. Gavril finished in eleventh place.

In women, Chepkirui broke Nelly Jepchumba’s record of 30:07 after leading a podium 1-2 finish for Kenyans with Agnes Ngetich who crossed the line in second in 30:30 with Uganda’s 5000m National Record holder, Sarah Chelangat coming home in third in 30:31. The two also came home under the old course record.
