Reigning African Games 5000m bronze medalist Richard Kimunyan and 400m specialist Maureen Jelagat won their respective races as Athletics Kenya track and field weekend meetings kicked off today in Eldoret.
Kimunyan won the men’s 10000m to send Josephat Kipchirchir to second in a photo finish clocking 30:29.3 and 30:29.4 respectively before Kennedy Kimutai placed third in 30:29.8.
Kenya Prison’s Jelagat won the women’s 400m hurdles after clocking 64.5 ahead of Brigid Jelagat of Kenya Defence Forces who finished second in 66.1 as Winnie Jelagat of Torongo closed the podium in 68.4.
In two lap race former world 800m champion Eunice Sum won her heat in 1500m to qualify for Sunday’s, to face African Games 1500m champion Qualine Kiprop.
