Kimunyan, Jeruto best bet at Almond Blossom cross County

Former 3,000m Commonwealth Youth champion Richard Kimunyan and world under 20 800m silver medalist Lydia Jeruto will be the key highlight at the 43rd edition of Almond Blossom cross Country, the World Athletics Cross Country Permit on Sunday, February 2nd in Portugal.

Kimunyan, the world junior cross country bronze medallist was also the 2019 All-African Games 5000m bronze medallist.

However, the Torongo based runner will be battling for the title with Eritrean Yemane Haileselassie, the 9th placed at the World Cross Country Championships in 2017 and the silver medallist in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2016 World U20 Championships.

Jeruto, who won Discovery cross country last weekend was 10th in the world cross country junior category.

Also from Torongo, she will face Salomé Rocha, the 2020 national road race champion, will carry Portuguese hopes. Rocha, who was eighth at the London Marathon last year, won this race in 2016 and 2018. A third victory on Sunday would move her into a tie with compatriot Aurora Cunha for the most Almond Blossom wins.
