Returning from road accident injury Victor Kipchirchir won the third edition of Eldoret City Marathon held today in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
It was a good start in marathon for Mercy Kipchumba who won the first marathon in her debut.

The former Valencia marathon champion was involved in a road accident in 2018 that kept him off from running and on return won his first race.
Coming from Elgeyo Marakwet County, Kipchirchir was crowned the champion after clocking 2:08.56 ahead of Leonard Lagat (2:10.49) and Nandi’s Emmanuel Bor who clocked 2:11.10.
“This has not been easy and a win did not come easily. This was my second marathon that I have been training for. The injury almost ended my career,” said Kipchirchir.
“I got injury three years ago with road accident at Chepkanga and I was operated on my shoulder and leg. After healing, I decided to train specifically for this marathon,” he added.
Running in her first marathon, Kipchumba won the women’s title in 2:28.31 ahead of Judy Korir, ahead of her training mate Judith Korir (2:28.31) and Jackline Chelal completing the podium in 2:29.47.
“This is my happy moments to win in my first marathon after doing well in half marathons. Since the beginning of the year, I have been training for such big event and a win is a good consolation for my hard work,” said Kuipchumba who led her training mate Korir to second.
