Former world cross country junior champion Ishmael Kipkurui and International Sports For Schools federation (ISF) World Cross country under 18 title, Diana Chepkemoi won slots to represent the country at the World Under 20 Athletics championships in Lima, Peru.
Kirui. the reigning Chepsaita cross country champion won the 5,000m title in 13:42.11 to book for the slot ahead of Andrew Kiptoo (13:43.54), Shadrack Kipkemoi (13:45.01), Ronald Kipkoech (13:48.17), Edwin Kimosong (13:48.29), Charles Rotich (13:49.15) Johanna Erot (14:01.26) and William Komen (14:06.15).
A month after winning the ISF title, Chepkemoi won the 3,000m steeplechase title to book for the Lima ticket that will be held between August 27th to 30th.
She won the water barriers race in 9:51.51 beating Judy Chepkoech (10:04.71) to second and Sharon Chepkemoi (10:22.48) for top three positions. Others were Sharon Chepkirui and Sheila jepkirui coming 4th and 5th respectively at 10:36.91 and 10:37.26.
Sheila Jebet and Collins Kibiwott won the 1,500m girls’ and boys’ race in 4:19.38 ahead of Miriam Chemutai was second in 4:19.51 followed by Mary Nyaboke (4:19.95) and Faith Jepchumba’s 2:26.56. Linah Chebet was 5th in 4:24.25 and Judy Kemunto was 6th in 4:26.00.
Kibiwott won the boys’ title at 3:41.50 ahead of Josphat Kipkurui who was second in 3:42.20 followed by Nelson Mapi (3:42.61) and Emmanuel Yegon (3:45.83) before Ezekiel Kipkorir.
