Kipsang, Chebet and Bett are best Kenyans at Lausanne Diamond League

Reigning Africa Senior Athletics 1,500m champion Abel Kipsang, Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet and Commonwealth Games former world under 20 3,000m steeplechase silver Leonard Bett were the best Kenyan athletes at the Lausanne Diamond league held this evening in Switzerland.

Kipsang, the reigning World Indoor 1,500m bronze medalist Kipsang was second in 3:29.93 behind the champion Jakob Ingebrighsten who won the title 3:29.05.

Former world 1,500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot finished a distance 7th when he returned home with 3:32.91.

Fresh from winning 5,000m title at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Chebet finished third in the 3,000m women race behind champion Francine Niyonsaba who won the race in 8:26.80 while Alicia Monson came second in 8:26.81 with Chebet, the former world under 20 5,000m champion Chebet coming third in 8:27.04.

Two time world champion Sifan Hassan was 4th when she clocked 8:28.28 with Kenyan Margaret Kipkemboi Chelimo in 5th at 8:29.5.

In 3,000m steeplechase men, Moroccan Soufiane El bakkali won the title when he clocked 8:02.45 ahead of Ethiopian hailemariyan Amare (8:12.07) and former world under 20 3,000m steeplechase champion leonard Kipkemboi Bett completing the podium in 8:12.08.

Other Kenyans led by former world under 20 3,000m steeplechase champion Amos Serem (3:13.93) was 5th and Commonwealth Games 3,000m steeplechase champion Abraham Kibiwot (8:15,69) was 6th.
