It was a bad day for triple Olympic Games 1,500m champion Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon who lost the Laureus World Sports Award during the ceremony held yesterday in Madrid, Spain.
At the event, gymnastic Simone Biles was named as the sportswomen of the year with Mondo Duplantis of Sweden and the sportsman of the year.
The decorated Biles won gold medals in the team, all-around and vault competitions, as well as a silver on the floor exercise at the 2024 Paris Games.
Despite Kipyegon having a good performance in 2024, world records, with three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 1500m she did not meet Biles.
The duo were competing alongside Spanish footballer Aitana Bonmati, tennis player Aryna Sabalenka, American Sydney McLaughlin Levrone and Netherlands Sifan Hassan.
