Kipyegon stun Chebet for 5,000m title at Olympic trials

Double world record holder Faith Kipyegon edged out the newly crowned world 10,000m record holder Beatrice Chebet to win the 5,000m title at the Athletics Kenya Olympic Games trials held at the Nyayo stadium.

Kipyegon, the two time Olympic Games 1,500m champion won the 5,000m title in 14:46.28 ahead of Chebet’s 14:52.55 and World 10,000m bronze medalist Margaret Chelimo was third at 14:59.39.

Reflecting on the team to Paris, Kipyegon is confident the three of them can bring glory to the country as far as the women’s 5000m is concerned.

Kipyegon is also expected to compete in the women’s 1500m, for which she will be defending her title at this summer’s race.
