Kipyegon beat Sifan to win first gold for Kenya in Budapest

Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon retain her world championships title after winning the first gold for Kenya at the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The three time world record holder retained her 1,500m title she won last year in Oregon when she clocked 3:54.87 followed closely by Ethiopian Diribe Welteji for silver in 3:55.69 as Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan, who also competed in the 10,000m settled for silver at 3:56.00.

Another Kenyan Nelly Chepchirchir missed the podium finishing in position 5 after clocking 3:57.90 as her personal best.

This was her third gold medal after winning in 2017, managed silver in 2019 behind Sifan then 2021 in Oregon and now 2023 in Budapest.
