Holders Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) successfully retained their Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) women’s National league title following their victory against their rivals Kenya Prisons.
In a match played over three days at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, KPC managed to contain Prisons in the best-of-three series’ tiebreaker staged at Kasarani Indoor Arena.
Prisons won the first leg on Saturday in 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 27-25 and 25-23 but KPC won the second match yesterday to tie at 1-1 in 3-0 (25-12, 25-21 and 25-18, then the deciding match was played today with KPC dominating 3-0 in 25-22, 25-23 and 25-22 for the title.
KPC coach Geoffrey Omondi, who also serves as Malkia Strikers’ coach said the performance was a great comeback.
“This was a tough match, and we are grateful we won. We adjusted well to their change in tactics, and we finally stunned them despite their strong serving,” said Omondi.
Kenya Pipeline will now be aiming to complete a double by winning the Kenya Cup, which resumes next weekend.
Kenya Pipeline will walk away with a reward of 300,000 shillings, with runners-up Kenya Prisons banking 200,000 shillings. Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), which saw off DCI in straight sets on Friday to win bronze, will bag 100,000 shillings. DCI, on the other hand, will receive 50,000 shillings.
