Nine players have been released by 2009 Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka in the latest transfer window.
Leading the park of released players is defender Abdulatif Omar, who joined the team for a second stint in June 2017, as well as strikers Meshack Karani, Morven Otinya, Hansel Ochieng and Francis Ocholla who also joined in mid 2017.
The Batoto Ba Mungu also let off Ugandan defender Jonathan Mugabi, the player who made the most appearances for the team in the 2017 season, featuring in 32 of 34 matches.
Samuel Mutiria, who graduated from the club’s U20 team in 2016 has also been released, as well as goalkeeper George Opiyo, whose contract ended at the close of 2017, signaling the end of his second stint with the team while Wesley Onguso who joined in June 2017 has also left.
Mugabi’s replacement has already been signed, in the shape of Burundian Moussa Omar and with the team in the chase for Zanzibari midfielder Abdul Aziz Makame, one of the remaining four foreigners, Ali Feni, Umaru Kasumba, Mathias Kigonya and Rodgers Aloro may be released.
