The government through the Ministry of Sports will award kshs 2 million to Faith Kipyegon and Mary Moraa for winning gold at the concluded World Athletics championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The duo were awarded during the launch of Talanta Hela Plaza in Upperhill, Nairobi where President William Ruto and Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba graced.
Kiyegon won double gold in the 5,000m and 1,500m while Moraa won gold in 800m.
At the same time, Namwamba said that he is in full control of his ministry contrary to reports portrayed by politicians.
“I can report to you your Excellency without a shadow of a doubt, with no ambiguity and with no circumlocution that this team that you have given the responsibility is delivering exactly in the manner you have instructed,” he said.
He said: “We hosted Hongera Awards where we honored all our legends going back to the 1960.”
Ababu also cited the world football governing body, Fifa had suspended Kenya from football activities but he managed to restore order after taking office. He added that Kenya can now host international matches.
“Because of the master plan that we developed, Nyayo National Stadium has been readmitted to host international games
“We inherited a scene where talents from schools went into wastage. Today we have created a pipeline and a conveyor belt where all these talents are now flowing to the Kenya Academy of Sports.”
