Four teams will battle out for the inaugural Eldoret La Liga Cup to be hosted this Sunday at the Eldoret’s Bishop Delany High school.
With the tournament focused on nurturing young players, the competing teams are made up of under 15 players aimed to promote football at the grassroots level in the country.
Event organizer and host Obadiah Kiptoo said that the event is an exciting initiative that aims to promote grassroots football in Kenya and bring the La Liga experience to local communities.
“By organizing a one-day tournament and providing La Liga merchandise to the winners and participants, it demonstrates the commitment to supporting football development at the grassroots level. Engaging with local partners such as Chendeleza and FFA will help to increase the visibility of the event and highlight the passion for football in Eldoret and beyond, helps to build strong relationships with local communities and create lasting positive impacts for young players and football enthusiasts,” said Kiptoo.
Kiptoo said that they want to make sure young talents don’t go to waste when such initiatives are meant to support them at their youthful stages.
“For now, the tournament will have four teams made up of Ndogo Fc from Langas, Homeboyz from Huruma, Eldoret FC from Kamukunji and Kimumu’s Kimumu Youngstars. During the event, we shall have prizes in terms of merchandise and we are requesting for more fans to tuen up for the tournament and support our junior players and soccer lovers. We are calling on many people to turn up and see the talents our young people have in the villages,” added Kiptoo.
As they focus on young talents, the under 15s he said that in the next edition, they will consider more teams where the such tournament has been played in Nairobi hosted by Ligi ndogo and Mombasa and this time it is coming to Eldoret.
“For now, we don’t have cash prizes but merchandise like playing kits, uniforms and balls, trophies for the winning team and trophies for the best players. We are looking forward to increasing teams in the next edition,” he added
