Upstarts Judith Jepngetich and Bernard Langat were crowned the champions of the inaugural Betika 15km Kapsabet Road Race held today in Nandi County.
Jepngetich won the women’s race in 50:45.1 ahead Janeth Jepkosgei Kiptoo (51;02.0) and Joan Jepkosgei (51:24.7).
She said that being the first time to compete in the road, it was a hard course but coming home victorious was good for her.
She added that the victory has added flavor as she wants to venture into road running.
“This is a good start because I want to venture into 10km, marathons and half marathons in the near future,” she said.
Langat from Nakuru County beat the odds to win the men’s race. Also as a 5,000m runner, it was his maiden appearance in road running and came home victorious.
