Leaders Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Hunters and JKUAT Panthers are poised to win the Kenya Roll Ball Federation National League that comes to an end this Sunday at the Gretsa University courts.
The JKUAT teams of Hunters in men and Panthers in ladies have taken the lead ahead of final fixtures where men compete in 12 teams while women league has nine teams.
The Hunters, on 18 points will be seeking to defend their title they won in 2019 season and will be challenged by their second team The Wolves who are in second position with 17 points with both teams playing ten matches.
On Sunday, the Hunters will be taking on 5th placed Glory Outreach Assemblies (GOA) who have garnered 12 points from nine matches.
Hunters did not have the game last weekend at the Chuka University but GOA beat bottom placed Meru University 8-0
Women leaders The Panthers on 14 points will be chasing their title when they will face second placed Archibella. Panthers enjoy a point lead from seven matches as Archibella has accumulated 13 points from similar games.
Ladies defending champions GOA Ladies lies in 4th position with ten points after playing eight matches.
Wolves Recce Nyaundo said the league has become competitive in readiness to produce the best players to compete at the international level.
“The league is going on well since we have remained with two to three matches before ending the league. We are happy that the organization of the league is good, the teams are improving game by game as we are moving on well. We have very competitive referees in East Africa,” said Nyaundo.
He added that the league did quite well with a lot of improvement on basic skills, skating and shooting skills, hoping that since they are going to have the Roll Ball world Cup this year, they hope that the country will present a good team and completive one.
“Generally, the league is good. If you are able to observe and look at the standings, the difference is two to three points meaning the league is competitive having seen this game grow since 2012 till now as a country. Kenya is the only country that has a continuous league running round the year despite the pandemic affecting the 2020/2021 season,” said Nyaundo.
