Top amateurs will this weekend return in action, chasing the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series points at the Uhuru Shield on the par 72 Nairobi Royal Club after flying Kenyan flag in Antananarivo, Madagascar for the Africa Region 1V Championships.
After leading Kenya to defend the Africa Region 1V title for the 4th time in a two, series leader John Lejirma, Michael Karanga and Elvis Muigua will be in action to chase the title from Friday December 5th to Sunday December 7th.
The battle field will be between the defending champion Karanga and home player Lejirma who all dressed national colours over the weekend as they face over 100 elite amateurs already registered as the championship promises a thrilling showdown as players compete for one of Kenya’s most prestigious amateur titles.
Last year, Karanga claimed the title with an impressive -4, the spotlight now shifts to a trio of top contenders who are widely expected to challenge strongly. Lejirma is expected to enjoy home course advantage and a history of strong performances at Royal Nairobi and expected to be one of the key players to watch during the three-day championship.
Muigua, one of Kenya’s rising young stars, who has been on a powerful upward trajectory in recent seasons. His steady growth, competitive edge, and top finishes at national events position him as a strong challenger for the title.
Adding to the intensity of the competition is Isaac Makokha, the 2023 Uhuru Shield champion. Makokha’s return brings valuable experience and a proven winning formula at Royal Nairobi. His past victory makes him one of the players with the best chance of reclaiming the shield.
Uhuru Shield promises an intensely competitive leaderboard from start to finish. Royal Nairobi Golf Club continues its longstanding commitment to nurturing elite amateur golf by offering a demanding championship course and a historic environment that brings out the best in regional talent.
As anticipation builds, the event is set to deliver memorable moments and an exhilarating battle for one of the most respected trophies.
