Africa Masters Athletics president Leonie Etong will be the chief Guest at Saturday‘s first leg of Athletics Masters Cross country meeting with over 3000 athletes set to compete at Eldoret Polytechnic.
According to race organizer Rose Tata, Etong will be gracing the event as the country gears up to host 2021 Africa Masters championships, after a successful journey from Africa Masters championships in Tunisia, as athletes battle for the first ever cross country ahead of next year’s world masters championships.
Tata said there will be prizes for top 6 finishers in both men and women, with the race that conistst of athletes aged 35yrs and above.
Men will be competing in 8km while women will battle in 6km.
“Our chief guest will be Etong among other invited guests. Etong will be meeting with the veterans and we are hoping the event will be more successful because the,” said Tata.
“Apart from us marketing the event, we are also using such series to select a good team to represent the country in 2020 world championships. We also need to show Africa that we are able to host the 2021 Africa Masters Athletics championships,” added Tata.
