Former Africa Youth Olympics 1,500m champion Nickson Lesiyia and Agnes Mumbua were crowned the champions of the Athletics Kenya Southern Cross Country Championships held on Saturday at Machakos People’s Park.
It was a successful transitioned for Lesiyia who won the senior men’s 10km title beating former Youth Olympics 3,000m champion Jackson Kavesa and Emmanuel Lemama.
Lesiyia won the title in 27:01.6 ahead Bernard Musau and Alexander Mutiso who clocked 27:06.5 and 27:17.2 respectfully.
Mumbua won the senior women’s 10km title in 32:45.5 Cecila Wayua who was second in 31:59.0 and Lucy Muli romping home third in 32:00.1.
In junior women, Ann Mwongeli was victorius timing 20:38.4 ahead of Sharon Ndanu and Elizabeth Mueni to second and third in 20:56.8 and 21:42.9 respectively.
In men’s under 20, Nelson Mandela won the title in 21:27.5, beating Philip Kilonzo to second place in 21:29.2 as James Mwanzia timed 21:34.4 for third place.
