Double Amsterdam marathon champion Lawrence Cherono joined Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Chelilim Bii to contribute food for starving Kenyans in Turkana and West Pokot Counties.
The former Chicago Marathon champion Cherono and Bii joined other Uasin Gishu residents to contribute food stuffs and cash amounting to Kshs 10 million to support the hungry Kenyans in the two counties.
Cherono said that as a family they came together to support the Save A Life Initiative because they come from such hardship areas of Baringo.
“When we heard about this initiative, we discussed and came up with a solution of helping them because one person cannot do this but if we come together we do a bigger thing,” said Cherono.
Flanked by his wife also urged fellow athletes to come together to support those Kenyans suffering in many parts of the country.
“As a Cherono, I want to urge fellow athletes to come and support such initiatives because in our country now, we have a big challenge of hunger. We see them on television and some of us who come from such hardship areas understand very well what people are going through,” said Cherono.
Chelilim said that the initiative will help people in Turkana and part of West Pokot.
“This is the first county to have such an initiative and due to this, we have contributed food and cash amounting to kshs 10 million,” said Chelilim.
