Limo to lead top players for Scrabble Kenya title in Kakamega

SCRABBLE Kenya chairman Kipkemboi Limo has confidence that young players will give a stiff competition when the National Scrabble Kenya tournaments head to Kakamega this weekend.

Limo said that the two day event that starts on Saturday to Sunday,  young players led by hosts Nicole Ochan will be leading other players in the chase for the title ahead of East and central Africa Scrabble championships (ECASA) in Kakamega County.

“We are looking at the youthful players who want their names on the top ranking players and they will give other players a run for their money. We have a very good youthful team in Kakamega led by Ochan and we expect her and others to produce a top notch game,” said Limo.

With three meetings remaining (kakamega October 6th and 7th, Nyahururu-November 4th and 5th and Kisumu from December 9th-10th), for the season to come to an end, Limo said the competition will be tougher than any other meetings across the country.

“We Have very few meetings remaining before we end the year and each player will be on a toss to ensure that they do their best to earn more points in the battle for the ECASA slot,” said Limo.

After Kenyan team missing to compete at the 2023 World English Scrabble Players Association championships (WESPAC) in Las Vegas USA in august due to visa hitch, the players returned started concentrating on the boards and  last month, former chairman Bernard Amuke emerged victorious when the meeting was held in Machakos.

With top players heading to the Western region for the tournament, Limo said Division A will be very competitive especially from home players.

“Division A, hosts like Dan Musungu, Makton Wafula will be very instrumental against Philip Mutinda, among others.

Top seed Bernard Koyyoko will be in action chasing his third title of the season as well as Allan Oyende among other top players.

“The tournament will not be a walk in the park. It will be a tough one because we shall have like 50 players drawn from across the country,” he added.
