Track mistress Linet Masai has quit track and cross country to venture into marathon running career.
The former 10,000m world champion will be making her debut at Amsterdam marathon set for Sunday to try her luck in the 42km distance.
Coming from a running family of Moses and Magdalene Masai, won the 2007 World Junior Cross Country title.
The runner has recovered from a knee injury that kept her out of competition but now she has recovered for the race on Sunday in the Netherlands.
The runner will face off with former 5,000m World Champion Meseret Defar of Ethiopia, who will also make her marathon debut.
She also clinched a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics Games held in Beijing, China, before securing the gold medal in the same distance in 2009 during the World Championships in Berlin, Germany.
She is the 2010 silver medalist at the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland before making it two at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea winning bronze in 10,000m and sixth in the 5,000m.
