Kenya Lionesses, the Kenyan ladies-7-aside were crowned the champions of Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens Cup played today in Gaborone, Botswana today.
The Kenya team downed Uganda 29-7 in the final match to lift their maiden continental title after defending champions South Africa forfeited the two day championships to concentrate on World Cup.
The Kevin Wambua charges led 22-0 at water break with a brace Michele Omondi and Janet Akello, which was a solace after losing two times to South Africa in the last four consecutive finals.
On road to the finals, Lionesses ousted Madagascar 27-0 while Uganda edged out former champions Tunisia 10-5 in semifinals.
It was great for Lionesses who topped Pool A without conceding any score. They shone over Senegal 41-0 and Madagascar 42-0 and thrashed Zambia 41-7 in the quarterfinals.
