Lionesses fall to Rwanda as Women Afrobasket qualifiers starts in Rwanda

Lionesses, the national women basketball team started the 25th edition of FIBA Afrobasket qualifiers on a bad note, losing their opening match on Monday evening in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Lionesses went down 77-45 to hosts Rwanda at the Kigali Arena where Rwandese Tierra Monay Henderson scored a game high 23 points, five rebounds and eight.

The George Mayienga coached side, the Kenyan team will face off with South Sudan, who lost to Egypt 95-65, while Rwanda take on favourites Egypt.

The winner of this tournament will join Cape Verde (Zone Two qualifiers winners), who became the first team to qualify for 2021 Women’s AfroBasket, hosts Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal, Mali and Mozambique set for September 17th to 26th at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
