Madagascar whip Burkina Faso to make it to CHAN quarterfinals

Madagascar claimed the second victory against Burkina Faso to qualify into the quarterfinals of the ongoing African Nations Championships (CHAN) at the Amaan stadium.

Madagacar won 2-1 against Burkina Faso to finish second in pool B, relegating Mauritania to leave the championships on goal difference when both teams finished level on seven points, but Madagascar’s superior goal difference (+2 compared to Mauritania’s +1) ensured their passage.

Burkina Faso, who also harboured outside hopes, were eliminated after finishing fourth with three points, while CAR’s single point left them bottom.

With the group concluded, Tanzania march on as group winners and will now prepare for a potentially favourable quarter-final tie against one of the runners-up from pool B.

Madagascar, on the other hand, will take confidence from their resilience and attacking spark as they return to the knockout rounds for the first time.

The result, coupled with a goalless draw between Central African Republic and Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, means Tanzania top Group B while Madagascar advance as runners-up.

Fenohasina Razafimaro scored first in the 7th minute for the winners then Souleymane Sangaré leveled in the 25th minute before Nomena Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa scored the winning goal for Madagascar in the 58th minute from a penalty shot.
