Athletics Kenya has assured Kenyans that marathon team will deliver good results at the world athletics championships in Doha, Qatar.
Led by president Jack Tuwei said the team has been preparing well in Eldoret, Iten, Kapdabet and Kaptagat has the power to deliver medals for the nations.
“We are grateful that these individuals accepted to represent our country. We came here today to hear from them one on one so that we hear from them if they have prepared well plus coaches to know how they are prepared so that when they go to Doha, we know they are well prepared. Before they leave,” said Tuwei.
He added that they wanted check if athletes who have been injured and have asked our doctors to look on them and it is only the doctors to clear somebody who is injured.
“When somebody is injured and is in the team. The body reaction is completely different from what we people think, we want to go and win , we want somebody to win but if somebody is injured we don’t want to make it worse for that individual and we don’t want the injury to go to worse because of our requirement we still need those athlete in future. We will excuse those who are injured,” added Tuwei.
The same was reiterated by two time world marathon champiuon Edna Kiplagat, who is also the team captain.
“We have been given whatever we needed as a team in the camp so, the duty is on us to perform well,” said the two time London marathon champion.
Kiplagat said in Eldoret as they were visited by Athletics Kenya office led by President Jack Tuwei who assured them that all is well and ready for the championships.
