Maria Soti cross country: Budding athletes to test their ability

Top and budding athletes will have a chance to showcase their talents at this year’s second edition of Maria Soti cross country championships set for tomorrow (Saturday) at Maria Soti secondary School in Elgeyo Marakwet County.

With the conclusion of cross country meetings in the country, many athletes will use the use as part of their training ahead of Africa Cross championships in Chief, Algeria.

The event will also act as a training ground for track athletes who won slots ahead of Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Last year winners Titus Sang in men’s 10km senior race, Nicholas Kimeli (8km)junior, Valary Jemeli (8km senior women) and 6km (junior women) are expected to defend their titles.

Kimeli, Rhonex Kipruto who was second to Kimeli who recently graduated into senior cadre, have been selected to represent the country in Algeria championships.

6km women champion Jebet Ng’etich, who won Elgeyo Marakwet Country cross country championships, failed to make the cut to the continental championships.
